The oldest trick in the book is to choose a topic you know well. Choosing a topic that you are passionate about that can illustrate your story and talents is one of the best strategies for college essay writing. You'll also want to write in your own voice so that the admissions team gets a better feel for who you are!
Brainstorm, brainstorm, brainstorm. This tip applies both to the initial topic as well as the breakdown of components that determine how your essay gets structured. The more space you initially allow for creativity, the more compelling material you have to work with.
Be authentic and do not be afraid to be vulnerable. Let the reader into your world and show them a side of yourself that is not revealed in the rest of your application. There is an art to this reveal so make sure it is not too dramatic, trite, or obvious.
Begin your essay with a strong hook that interests the reader. A traditional essay structure or a more imaginative one depends on how comfortable you are with your writing style.
