SAT/ACT

Brian offers a series of five 75 minute sessions for $550 for either SAT Verbal section or ACT tutoring.

When it comes to acing the SAT, a score of over 1400 (Combined verbal and math) will give you a competitive edge for college applications to many prestigious colleges.

However, such a high score does not come easy and it comes with knowing many "tricks of the trade" that enables a student to answer some of the most difficult question types.

Brian's SAT verbal section tutoring is specifically geared toward the language and reading comprehension skills that students need to master to achieve an 800 on this portion of the exam.

Part of the solution for achieving high marks on the SAT comes down to countless hours of studying to ace any problem that comes your way. However, with the right guidance, this time can be reduced as the student uses proven strategies to navigate questions with greater ease. That being said, the amount of study tine depends on the baseline score a student achieves on a practice test and the target score he or she wishes to achieve,

Here is one approximate estimate of study time as it related to increased score:

10 hours: 0 - 30 points

20 hours: 30 -70 points

40 hours: 70 - 130 points

80 hours: 130-200 points

150 hours: 200 - 330 points

Using official practice questions is an excellent way for a student to raise his or her score as many test prep books contain questions that are far too easier or difficult than those one might find on the SAT.

Khan Academy is an excellent resource as it has partnered with the College Board and provides official practice questions. Similarly, the official PSAT practice test has quality practice questions.

As you get deeper into the strategy of the test, there are many tips for homing in on the types of questions you get wrong and shortcuts for getting them right with greater efficiency and time saved. One of the most important principles of test prep is identifying the specific question types that the students gets incorrect, then applying the specific strategies to address why they are struggling.

Time management, answering every question, working with keywords and strategies for eliminating wrong answers are all part of the equation for how a student can succeed on the SAT.
